About Vienna
In October 2020, my new stereo and 5.1 mixes of Ultravox‘s classic 1980 album Vienna album were released (including the full album and all related B-sides). Produced by the legendary Conny Plank, the album was the band’s first to feature Midge Ure on lead vocals, and originally peaked at number 3 in the UK album chart. The title track was famously thwarted from reaching the top of the singles chart by a novelty song, but has since gone on to become one of the most iconic and famous songs of the eighties, performed by the band at Live Aid in 1985, and most recently featured so effectively in the climactic episode of American Crime Story – The Assassination of Gianni Versace (a must see if you haven’t already). As well as my new stereo mix, it includes the original (and brilliant) stereo mix newly mastered from production tapes, live and rehearsal recordings, and single and 12 inch tracks.
