I’m happy to announce my collaboration on a new album by Theo Travis called Aeolus, to be released as a 2 disc CD/Blu-Ray set on 6th September by Panegyric.
Subtitled ‘one hour duduk meditation’, my role was to produce, create the soundscapes (derived from Theo’s flute playing), and mix in both stereo and multi- channel.
For some time Theo has been experimenting with the duduk, an Armenian woodwind instrument that has been described as ‘the saddest sounding instrument in the world’. Understanding that in today’s chaotic world there is an increasing need for more functional forms of music for relaxation and meditation, he has used it to make several extended long-form meditation pieces for YouTube, which have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times.
The aim with Aeolus was to extend the idea into audiophile multi-channel audio to create a completely immersive meditational space. The piece lasts for exactly one hour and can be played back in stereo from CD and DTS 5.1 or DolbyAtmos from blu-ray. The blu-ray additionally includes high resolution stereo, as well as a remastered version of Theo’s previous one hour duduk meditation Ancient Souls, Modern Times, which has amassed over one million views on YouTube.
After my recent Bass Communion album which I might characterise as uneasy listening ambient music, Aeolus is undoubtedly something to put you in a more spiritually chilled out and relaxed frame of mind! Album available to pre-order from Burning Shed, Aeolus 4min edit on DSPs now.
